  • Get Your Anxiety Under Control Without Drugs

Get Your Anxiety Under Control Without Drugs

Do you live under an everyday cloud of anxiety, but don’t want to use drugs to help you cope with it? Believe me, you are not the only one. A lot of my clients come to my hypnotherapy clinic telling me that their doctor has suggested that they start taking medication to calm their anxiety. They don’t want to take medication and so are looking for an alternative.

Don’t get me wrong. I am not anti-medication. For some people medication is a good solution to anxiety. However, there are many people who don’t want to get into the habit of taking anti-anxiety medication, or they have tried it and it doesn’t do much for them.

Anti-anxiety medication is designed to rebalance the chemicals in the brain, so that the area that creates the anxiety calms down a bit. This is also possible using hypnotherapy.

    Hypnotherapy For Anxiety

Hypnotherapy is not like you see in the movies or on the stage. I cannot snap my fingers and make you change. What I can do is to help your brain create the right conditions to make changes. Very few people find themselves empty of anxiety after one or two sessions. It takes a bit of time. Typically, I see people for between five and ten sessions (although I cannot provide any guarantees).

Once the anxiety has gone, or at least massively reduced, I have a conversation with my client. I ask, “Are you ready to do this on your own now?” and we come to an agreement as to when to finish.

Many of my clients ask me, “Would it be okay if I come back if it gets bad again?” Of course, I always say, “Yes”, but hardly anyone ever does.

    And Finally …

If you want to tackle your anxiety issues without resorting to medication, then you may like to consider hypnotherapy. You can Contact Me if you would like a free phone consultation to help you decide. I work out of my clinic in Fleet, Hampshire and also online.

  • Hypnotherapy in the New Year

    Hypnotherapy in the New Year

I am excited to be back seeing my clients again after a couple of weeks break. This morning, however, the temperature was minus 5 and there was a light covering of snow, making the paths quite slippy. I went out to get the heating in the clinic on, and brushed a path through the slippy snow.

An hour later and the clinic was still not up to a temperature that I would call “comfortable”. Fortunately, my first client was on Zoom, rather than seeing me in person. By the end of the session, my clinic was feeling toasty, ready for my first face-to-face client.

I love my job. I love seeing clients move from a state of not knowing how to cope with their anxiety, to a state where that anxiety disappears into the background. It is a pleasure to witness the changes little by little, until they reach the point where my clients no longer need me.

If you (or any of your family) are struggling with anxiety in any one of its many forms, I would be pleased to hear from you. Just Contact Me and I will be glad to have a short phone consultation so that you can decide whether you want to give hypnotherapy a chance to prove itself.

  • Solution Focused Hypnotherapy Provides a 90% Improvement Rate

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy Provides a 90% Improvement Rate

Preliminary findings in a research project examining the effectiveness of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy has shown a 90% improvement rate in clients’ main concerns.

There is only one hypnotherapeutic treatment currently approved by NICE (the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence in the UK) – that is gut-directed hypnotherapy for IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). This does not mean that hypnotherapy is not extraordinarily effective for other issues, it is just that gut-directed hypnotherapy is the only type of hypnotherapy that has undergone large-scale scientific trials.

But now there is a new kid on the block in terms of scientific hypnotherapy trials – Solution Focused Hypnotherapy.

The scientific trial has, so far, recorded the improvements reported by 192 people attending solution focused hypnotherapy sessions. Each participant in the trial was asked to scale their main concerns that they wished to address prior to the sessions starting, then again after 4 weeks and 8 weeks. Finally, they were followed up after a month after completing the sequence of hypnotherapy sessions. Results show a 90% improvement rate in clients’ main concerns.

    What Is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy focuses on the future. Unlike some traditional hypnotherapy, it does not attempt to dig up the past and find the cause of the problem. It is not concerned with where the problem came from, only where the client is going to.

Using a modern psychological approach, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy asks the client to imagine a future where their problem is gone, or at least reduced. When a hypnotic trance is brought into play, the subconscious mind can then rewire so that it better behaves as the client wants to behave.

    The Future of Hypnotherapy

The trial reported above is the beginning of an on-going experiment to demonstrate and prove the efficacy of solution focused hypnotherapy, using accepted scientific research practices. The results have not yet been formally published. However, there is a plan to ensure that a paper is written, reviewed by independent experts and published in an appropriate scientific journal with these preliminary results.

For advocates of solution focused hypnotherapy, like myself, this is exciting news. It is the first step in getting hypnotherapy to be more widely recognised as a highly effective means of addressing many mental health issues. I will be writing further blogs on this subject once the results have been formally published.

    And Finally …

If you would like to experience the effectiveness of solution focused hypnotherapy for yourself, please Contact Me and I will be pleased to talk to you. I work out of my clinic here in Fleet, Hampshire, as well as working online.

  • What Problems Can Hypnotherapy Help With?

What Problems Can Hypnotherapy Help With?

Hypnotherapy helps you reprogramme your subconscious. All of us have times when there is something about us that is not right, things where our brain seems out of our control. This is just our subconscious getting things wrong.

Hypnotherapy can help you get back in control of the things that don’t seem right. When your subconscious gets things wrong, it can force you to feel or do or think things that you would prefer not to.

Here are some of the things that hypnotherapy can help with:

    Unwanted Negative Feelings

We sometimes have negative feelings that are far more than the usual ups and downs of the day. For example:

    • Having anxiety or dread most or all of the time
    • Extreme sadness (depression)
    • Uncontrolled anger
    • Jealousy
    • Fear of something irrational (phobias)
    • Lack of confidence
    • Panic attacks
    • A feeling of being overwhelmed by everything
    • Lack of motivation to do things

    Getting Over Something Traumatic

When something traumatic happens in your life, hypnotherapy can help you come to terms with it quicker than if you had to do it on your own. For example:

    • Someone close passing away
    • Being involved in, or just watching a major accident
    • Finding out your partner has been cheating on you
    • Break up of a long-term relationship
    • Being a victim of violence

Not Being In Charge Of Your Thoughts

There are times for all of us when we are not entirely in charge of our own thoughts. When taken to the extreme, this can become overwhelming. For example:

    • A voice in your head constantly criticising you
    • Constantly thinking about all the things you have to do
    • You keep thinking about all the things that could go wrong (catastrophising)
    • Embarrassment about something you did that you keep thinking about

Doing Something That You Can’t Control

So many people have eaten something or done something automatically and then thought, “I shouldn’t really have done that.” When you keep doing this and can’t stop that it becomes a problem. For example:

    • Smoking
    • Uncontrolled drinking
    • Uncontrolled drug taking
    • Self-harm
    • Binge eating
    • Skin picking
    • Pulling out your hair
    • Compulsive behaviours

Avoiding Something That Would Be Good

Because of an overwhelming feeling of dread, you might find yourself avoiding doing things that you would enjoy or would be useful to you. For example:

    • Avoiding flying to go on holiday
    • Avoiding going out
    • Avoiding driving on motorways
    • Avoiding going to social occasions
    • Avoiding using the Internet

Physical Symptoms That Get You Down

There are some physical symptoms that seem to get worse with stress. Hypnotherapy cannot help you alleviate or cope with them better. For example:

    • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
    • Difficulty sleeping
    • Migraines
    • Symptoms of peri-menopause or the monthly hormonal cycle

    How Can Hypnotherapy Help?

Hypnotherapy is all about allowing the subconscious to shift its perspective towards a more positive future, a future where you are more in control and can lead a normal life.

If you would like to talk to me about these or any other issues that hypnotherapy might help with, then Contact Me. I work out of my clinic in Fleet, Hampshire as well as online, and would be pleased to discuss (confidentially of course) your issues with you.
