If you have a fear of flying, it can ruin your holiday, make business trips a real difficulty, and can really mess up your travel plans. You can pass on a fear of flying to your children or other family members who fly with you. Although flying is one of the safest forms of transport (See Ref 1), a fear of flying is extremely difficult to overcome by yourself.
I help people overcome their fear of flying using hypnotherapy. I have helped many clients overcome this phobia, and several have told me afterwards that they really quite enjoyed their flights.
If this is you and you want to give hypnotherapy a go then get in touch.
Fear of Flying Experience
If you have a fear of flying, you may experience (see Ref 2):
- Worry and anxiety in the days and weeks leading up to the flight
- Anxiety increasing rapidly on the day of the flight, right up to boarding the plane
- Massive anxiety and panic during takeoff, and during the flight
In addition to the general levels of anxiety, you may also experience:
- Panic attacks
- Catastrophic thoughts
- Tension
- Sweating
- Shortness of breath
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Heart palpitations
If you want to fly without these problems, you might consider hypnotherapy, which is an effective way of dealing with a fear of flying:
How Many People Suffer From A Fear Of Flying?
At least one in ten of people experience some form of fear of flying (See Ref 4). Of these:
| 14% | have never flown on an airplane in their lives |
| 10% | have flown, and say they will only fly again if there is no alternative |
| 6% | have flown, and say they will never fly again |

If you are one of these people, maybe hypnotherapy can help you enjoy flying.
How Does Hypnotherapy Help With A Fear Of Flying?
Air travel is one of the safest forms of transport, nevertheless, it is very common to develop a fear that is triggered by flying or just thinking about flying. This fear arises from our subconscious. In neuroscience terms, it comes from a part of the brain called the Amygdala, which is our fight-flight-freeze centre, being hyper-sensitive about flying.
No matter how many people tell you that flying is safe, the subconscious will not listen. It will create the fear anyway. Hypnotherapy is a proven means of dealing with a fear of flying (See Ref 3). It can calm the subconscious down and teach it that flying is safe, even something to be enjoyed.
If you would like to experience hypnotherapy to calm you and your subconscious:
How Many Sessions Does It Take?
I usually see my Fear Of Flying clients for 2 or 3 sessions. That is normally all it takes. After this, the fear is gone or reduced to an acceptable level. I must caveat this by saying that I cannot guarantee success. If my clients have other anxiety issues that are not related to flying, then it is likely to take longer, as these other issues will have to be dealt with too.
If you have a flight planned, then it is best to contact me a month before the flight, so that we can plan the sessions. However, even if you are starting to panic a few days before the flight, it is worth contacting me to see if I can fit something in.

Where Do The Sessions Take Place?
Most of my clients prefer to see me in my clinic (In Fleet, Hampshire, UK). However, I also help people online over a video call.
What Results Can I Expect?
Most of my clients are quite comfortable with flying after a few sessions. Some have told me afterwards that they actually enjoyed their flight. Of course, I am not allowed to guarantee anything, and there will be a small number of people for whom this will only have a minor effect.

Are There Alternatives To Hypnotherapy?
I am a hypnotherapist and so I would always recommend hypnotherapy as a first choice. But if you don’t fancy a few nice relaxing hypnotherapy sessions, you might want to try:
- Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy is also a possibility (see Ref 4).
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is known to help for some people (see Ref 5).
- Many airlines offer courses to help you get over a fear of flying.
Of course, I am biased in favour of hypnotherapy, so if you want to talk to me about it:
